The German Emigrants Database is located in the Historisches Museum Bremerhaven. There are two terminals in the museum where visitors can to do their own search into emigrants. The search is included in the museum admission charge.
The terminals are very user-friendly. Just enter the name of the person you are looking for into a data mask together with other piece of information known and start the search. The result will be displayed on the monitor. For clearer results you should enter the surname and first name of the person being searched for as well as one other piece of information (e.g. sex, year emigrated, domicile before emigration). If the information entered is insufficient or unclear, or if there are two or more people with the same name, the program will restrict the search result to 100 emigrants. You can also have the results of an individual search printed out at the museum.
The terminals can be used during museum opening times:
Tuesday to Sunday: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
