The passenger manifests for emigration ships from German ports were always written in English, which is why all the manifests in the German Emigrants Database are recorded in the original language. Specialist translators are now translating the most important sections of the lists so that parts of the manifests are available in the database in both German and English.

The following sections have been translated into German:

•    Nationality, ethnic group

•    Occupation

•    Information such as YES, NO, NONE

•    Color of hair, eyes and skin

•    Type of relation and marital status

•    Sex

Height is given in feet and inches, money in Dollars. Distinguishing features are still listed in English.
